Going to New Heights
Introduction to climbing

If you’re new to the exciting world of rock climbing, the Get Vertical class at New Heights is where you want to start. In this two-hour introductory climbing class you will learn the basic safety skills required for climbing at New Heights. With a New Heights instructor as your guide you lean how to put on a climbing harness, tie the rope into the harness, safety checks, top rope belaying and basic vertical movement. Upon successful completion of this class you will have the skills required to climb at New Heights on your own.

Cost: $20.00. The price includes all required rental equipment, plus climbing shoes.

Each student receives a coupon for a free afternoon or evening climb, valid if they pass their belay certification within two weeks of completing the class. With the instructors approval you may stay and climb after class.

Policies: Reservations are requested for class. Our instructor to student ratio is 1:6. We will limit the number of students we accept per class. The class is generally for ages 12 and up. All climbers must complete our release form and rules agreement. Climbers under 18 must have the forms signed by a parent or legal guardian. Hours, rates and policies are subject to change; call to verify.

 

Parent/Child Class

Learning to rock climb with your children is a great family activity. In climbing, the challenges and rewards are essentially the same for children and adults, creating a unique family experience. In this two hour introductory climbing class parents and children 12 and older will learn the basic safety skills required for climbing at New Heights. This includes leaning how to put on a climbing harness, safety checks, top rope belaying and basic vertical movement. Children age 11 and under will climb while the parents belay them. Upon successful completion of this class, parents and children 12 and older will have the skills required to climb at New Heights on your own.

Cost: $20.00 for each adult or child 12 and older, $10.00 per child 11 and younger. The price includes all required rental equipment. Each parent receives a coupon for a free day pass, valid if they pass their belay certification within two weeks of completing the class. Stepping Beyond
Learn Advanced Skills

Strength alone will not see you to the top of a challenging climb. As a result, your next step is to learn the proper techniques to maximize your performance on the wall. In this class you will improve balance, body position and footwork. Theses techniques in addition to wall rappelling, will advance your climbing level by enabling you to conserve your strength and climb more effectively.

Cost: $30.00. You may stay and climb after class if time allows.

Policies: Minimum of two students per class. Minimum climbing skills are required for this class, but you need to be able to belay. All climbers must complete our liability waiver and rules agreement. Climbers under 18 must have the forms signed by a parent or legal guardian. Hours, rates, and policies are subject to change; call to verify.

 

Learning to Lead

If your experiences include only top-rope climbing and bouldering and you would like to advance your climbing skills, then this is the course for you. This lesson will introduce the experienced top rope climber to lead climbing, use of anchors, lead techniques and routes, and lead belaying on indoor sport routes.

Cost: $30.00. Each student receives a coupon for a free day pass, valid if they pass their lead belay certification within two weeks of completing the class. You may stay and climb after class.

Policies: Minimum of two students per class. Minimum climbing skills are required for this class, however, you need to be top rope belay checked and climbing solidly at 5.8 to 5.9 levels. This class is generally appropriate for ages 12 and up. All climbers must complete our liability waiver and rules agreement. Climbers under 18 must have the forms signed by a parent or legal guardian. Hours, rates and policies are subject to change; call to verify.

 

Private Lessons

Private Lessons at New Heights are custom designed to fit your needs. If you have reached a plateau in your climbing or wish to explore more advanced aspects of climbing, a private lesson may be just what you are looking for.

Topics include:

  • Advanced vertical movement and Crack Climbing
  • Developing a personal training program
  • Climbing anchors and Lead Climbing
  • Self Rescue
  • Bouldering

Cost: Daily entry for each student plus $40.00 per hour instructor fee for the first two students. $15.00 per hour for each additional student. The price includes the required rental equipment plus climbing shoes. You may stay and climb after class.
